Episode 2
Who are these people?
In this episode, Shawn decides to take a deeper dive into discovering 'who' participates in cafe culture and investigates the differences between his beloved kopitiams and traditional cafes versus the up-coming contemporary Third Wave cafes with a little help from his guest speaker

After experiencing just the tip of the iceberg of cafe culture in the last episode, Shawn decides to take a deeper dive into discovering ‘who’ participates in cafe culture and investigating the differences between his beloved kopitiams and traditional cafes versus the up-coming contemporary Third Wave cafes. Of course it is customary for this episode’s idea to be inspired from Shawn’s tinder date adventures. After returning from his date, he finds himself ruminating about 'who participates in the culture' and 'why do people prefer third wave cafes over his kopitiam'! Shawn then takes us on a wonderful trip back in time to explore the origins of kopitams and traditional cafes in Malaysia while simultaneously allowing us listeners to experience kopitiams through the eyes' of Shawn's experiences with kopitiams. However while doing so, Shawn encounters a slight hindrance which eventually turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The listeners will then find out that the hindrance is actually an introduction of the guest speaker to this episode. She is an avid cafe hopper who consistently participates in cafe culture, so her knowledge about cafes is not to be doubted. Shawn being the old soul that he is, obviously has no idea what a cafe hopper is. So once his interview with the guest speaker concluded, he decided to explore the term 'cafe hopper' and 'cafe hopping' in his attempts to keep up with contemporary trends. As the episode comes to an end, Shawn concludes by touching slightly on how these cafes are discovered. With so many just randomly popping up around town, naturally he gets curious to find out how his friends are always at new different cafes every week. This also serves as a transition for the next episode where the 'how' and 'why' will be discussed further.
This episode ultimately serves as Shawn's discovery into the 'who' aspect of cafe culture in Malaysia. Getting to the roots of cafe culture will provide a better understanding of how and why the culture exists and works. Our guest speaker invited on this episode further explains and provides an insight from a person that is actively involved in the culture. As mentioned last episode, cafe culture is still relatively new, so our team resorted to utilizing non-academic sources, instead we used websites blogs, personal and other's experiences when it came to researching content for this episode. However that does not discredit the quality of our work, as we believe that we are objective with our experiences and impartial with the approach of our work.
